Restaurant Interior Photography | Ambria, Denver

I was thrilled to be commissioned by Aspen and Denver based architecture firm, Rowland + Broughton Architecture and Urban Design to photograph their recently completed remodel of this beautiful new restaurant, Ambria, on the 16th Street Mall in Denver. Warm, smoke colored Roots Lotus lights and a long community table create a beautiful gathering area central to the space, while flowing fabrics help define more intimate areas within a mostly open floorplan.
And if you were curious, yes - the food is amazing!

Green Cube | Denver Architectural Photography

Denver's Highlands neighborhood has a fantastically diverse fabric of architectural styles, including many new, contemporary and sustainably built homes, such as UrbanGreen's latest, the LEED approved Green Cube home.

The home has strong architectural forms, a beautiful glass stair, and a wonderful Living Wall feature which purifies the air quality while simultaneously growing herbs and lettuces right around the corner from the kitchen... what could be better?

I was fortunate enough to photograph the project during its brief time as a model home for one of the talented designers, Heidi Mendoza of Re.Dzine.

See more photos from this shoot on my FB fan page.

Cheers!

Denver Art Museum | Daniel Libeskind

Finally got a chance to wander around the museum site in Denver, and it was well worth the wait. The plaza was quite fun to photograph on an overcast day, and made for some fun black + white and selective color studies. Enjoy!

SLC Public Library

Moshe Safdie Architects designed this gorgeous modern Library in the heart of Salt Lake City. I have actually returned to SLC for the sole purpose of visiting the library again - it is THAT compelling! Great public gathering spaces; intimate book carols in a swooping architecture feature which allows spaces to be private but also visually engaged with the more public areas which they overlook; structure to respond to the area's seismic activity; stunning overlapping and interlocking spaces, stairs and features... it is truly a building to be experienced through the journey. Hopefully a few photos will tempt you to visit next time you are near!

Another Telluride Gem

Among a pool of several incredibly creative and talented architects at work in Telluride, Colorado, I recently had the privilege of shooting for a new client, Tommy Hein Architects.

This contemporary home with mining references and great detailing, is set in the Mountain Village, just above the town of Telluride. Bold architectural design powerfully engages a challenging, steeply sloped site with views to the north. The pedestrian approach is visually strong and experientially quite memorable, beginning with a metal bridge to an open tower structure detailed in stone, metal and wood. The tower connects not only the garage and main house through an axial relationship (in plan), but also multiple levels (in section), from the street, down an impressive stone stair, to another wood and steel bridge which serves as the connection to the main home.

Opaque glazing on most of the south wall allows for plenty of natural light to get in, but prevents the strongest of southern Colorado light from glaring with too much intensity, especially given the many patterns of fenestration.

An open metal grate deck to the south places you high amongst an aspen forest. In the winter, the view opens to reveal the San Juan mountains to the south.

Overlapping public spaces give way also to quiet moments at the ends of axes... and the journey of getting there is half the fun!
